City Of Remia Capital Of The Kingdom Of Remia
Back To IndexRemia is the capital and largest city of the Kingdom of Remia.
History
The founding myth states that a baby was washed ashore on a small swampy island, situated in the Ria Alto river. The baby boy was found by the prince of the old kingdom of Alvito on a hunting trip. He, who got the name of Remio was raised as a prince but never had any claim to the throne. When he reached adulthood he heard the voice of a god, telling him that he should prove himself as worthy and he shall recieve everything he ever wished for. Therefor Remio went back to the place where he was found all these years ago, tried to survive on the island and built a little hut. When the day of judgement came and a mystical dragon created the Burned, Remio was safe from them, unlike his family and the kingdom as a whole. As the only member of the ruling family who was still alive and with a save but yet accessible hideout he managed to bring back peace in the surrounding lands and a village for the refugees was founded on the island. Later this village was named after the hero and founder of the realm.
It is highly debated among scribes if this legendary figure really existed. What they do know is that there were settlements on the island since at least 750-BT.
The strategic position and rich iron mines helped the town to grow initially and later as the seat of power, the town has been heavily substidized for centuries by tax collection of the conquered lands. With that money a vast system of canals and roads have been built, all leading from and to the capital which helped to make it the larges place of trade in the known world.
With the fall of the Remian Empire and loss of tax revenue the city fell in a deep recession. The kingdom as a whole lost a lot of power and influence and so did it's capital. Slowly the economy is getting back on track but the hope of it ever reaching it's previous peak again was shattered by the 121 years of uprisings and independence movements that lead the remaining duchies to enjoy a large degree of autonomy and favourable tax rates.
