The History of Goia
Following is just a very quick overview. For more information see the Knowledge Base.
In the books of the ancient world of Goia, a tale is told of its creation. A land born from the embers of a fierce battle waged among the gods themselves. This lore is diligently upheld by the human kingdom of Remia, a mighty power that has held sway over the world for ages.
In its earliest days, Remia was but a humble haven for those who sought to pay tribute to the divine forces of good and evil. However, as trade and commerce flourished, the town grew into a great city, which in turn gave birth to an empire that subjugated all the lands of men under its formidable banner. With advances in medicine and the mass production of goods, the population swelled, and the empire began to explore and settle the islands that dotted the surrounding waters.
But the islands were not uninhabited, for a proud and ancient people dwelt within the verdant forests, possessed of pointed ears and a long life that was twice that of a mere human. These were the elves, who lived in tight-knit communities and watched cautiously as the humans came to their shores. Despite some elven folk migrating to the human-built towns and adopting the ways of their new neighbors, a deep-seated bitterness persisted.
As the human empire pressed its claims upon the land, the elves fought back with all the skill and naval prowess they had honed over the years. The resulting conflict devastated both sides and saw the empire's hold over the realm begin to unravel. Indeed, some counties even broke away from Remia's rule.
After years of war, both parties agreed to a peace treaty that enshrined the separation of land between the two races. The islands would belong forevermore to the elves, who had fought so fiercely to protect them, while the continent remained the domain of humans. Thus did the conflict between the two peoples come to an uneasy resolution, though the memory of their struggles and the wounds inflicted lingered on.
