The Free City Of Istra Human and Elven Trade Town

Istra is a city state on a small island in the bay of Istra.

History

Istra got founded as the perfect staging ground for the colonization of the east coast of the continent by the Empire of Remia. While the Second Human – Elven war was raging the empire neglected the colonies on the east coast with Istra becoming de facto independent. In the war time Istra joined the northern alliance as an independent nation which angered Remia and fractured the recently established diplomatic relations between Skjalva and the rest of the northern alliance with Remia.

After the war and signing of the Treaty, elves everywhere on the continent had to resettle to the islands with humans not allowed to settle those anymore. Istra was therefor in a predicament. It itself was an island but mostly surrounded by land. Its whole nation is just this island so the humans could not go anywhere. Istra therefor refused to sign the treaty and left the northern alliance, but got pressured into letting the elves settle the island as well.

The special status of Istra led to a great influx of elven migrants. At first the arrangement was difficult and elves were treated as citicens of lower class but after a a human generation, the elves gained equal status and some are even on the city's council.

The elven knowledge and craftsmanship helped the small town to flourish and become a prosperous city state, well known for its unrivaled luxory goods.
